The light on the way to my office. This was to be part of the shining less brightly but climate change driven storms have got in the way. We will be switching off where we can…

Today we were suppose to switch the lights off in all the mansions and castles in Wales as part of a pan European initiative which sees some of the most iconic buildings ‘do their bit’ in order to highlight the 10 years since the Kyoto accord was signed. The initiative called ‘shining less brightly’ is being driven from Italy. Buildings such as the Coliseum and St Peters in Rome will be taking part.

The unprecedented storms of the last few days (and the one currently blowing outside my office) have mucked up our plans a bit. As part of the event we ‘were’ planing to power up the Snowdon hydro when all the lights were being switched back on. (see previous blog) but unfortunately many of our mansions and properties are still clearing up after the storms and ‘battening down the hatches’ on what is to come through today. Some have lost ancient trees, roof tiles and one has even lost the road to the property when the river decided to take it away

As for the big hydro. It is sitting there (if it had a personality i would have said it was ’brooding!’) waiting for the local electricity grid to be fixed. As you drive down the valley you can see the odd cable hanging from electricity poles where the hurricane force winds have felled trees through them.
