PV and something special at Plas Newydd. Common spotted orchids, northern marsh orchids and rarer greater butterfly orchids
At Plas Newydd on Anglesey they just happen to share the same field. Sustainability in a field. 8 years ago 3 orchids and now we have a tad over 150,000. 18 months ago no Kilowatts and now 48,000kwh per annum from the 50kw PV system. Having seen the blog that Richard did about the counting I just had to go there today to see for myself…incredible and also stunning. (the orchids were not bad either!) Renewables do have their place and this is a good place. Interesting question though. 2 years ago no orchids where we were planning to put the PV. Today they are everywhere between the rows of panels. The installation seems to have had no impact. But it would have been an interesting situation of ‘should we’ if the orchids were there on the PV site? I suppose it comes to the precautionary principle but also how and what you install?
