On the way in to work this morning. All this sharing in spectacular places. Someone has to do it!
Its been a couple of weeks of heavy sharing. Last week we had the Army Royal Engineer students out at Hafod y Llan looking at renewables. PV to Hydro. They were interested in the electrical side and understanding the practical application. Challenges and quick wins. Over the weekend i was a guest lecturer at the Welsh School of Architecture presenting on the subject of energy and heritage buildings. This was followed by a quick tour of Tredegar House with the masters students. The stunning house was mid Christmas fair. Mince pies, choir around the piano and a Xmas market in the court-yard (Its a hard life!). This follows a stint lecturing around the same thing with Birmingham University masters student a couple of weeks ago. The Sunday before and we were at the farm to meet representatives of the community around one of our proposed projects near Bethesda. We were hosting the day to show what a small hydro development involved and looked like. Thursday and i was in Llanberis discussing with the local Doctors who have now agreed to allow a local community energy group to use the surgery roof for a community PV proposal (more on this if and when it pans out) …and finally today we were up Snowdon on a glorious day with the National Trust Director General Helen Ghosh and George Monbiot (the environmentalist, author, researcher and reporter) to see and discuss our sustainability work. Energy, grazing, water, peat, the future, use of land and all manner of interconnecting aspects. Oh and i forgot tomorrow its Dwr Cymru (Welsh Water) to look at catchment scale management. We have to do more of this – all of us!
I have to say that i actually do enjoy doing the sharing (as long as we also have time to do the doing!)
George Monbiot by the Gladstone Rock on Snowdon. If your going to talk landscape scale impacts then the sunshine, rusted colours of the fading autumn with Welsh Black cattle in the woodlands below in the Cwm Llan amphitheatre is a good place to site it.
